Ain’t This Grand!
Quogue – Dune Road
June 6, 2016
Quogue, incorporated in 1928 and boasting a year-round population of less than 1,000, is somewhat closer to the city than other Hampton towns to the east. The Village of Quogue and the oceanfront stretches along Dune Road have always been a quieter slice of the Hamptons, removed from the ‘Hamptons Scene,’ yet just as beautiful and perhaps a bit more quaint and untouched. Its appeal is to a more reserved Hamptonite perhaps, both for its proximity to Manhattan and because in Quogue there is a sense of being part of an exclusive club- something akin to a private community that, at least for the time-being, can still claim to be among the few remaining ‘undiscovered’ neighborhoods on the East End. This may not last for too much longer though, as Quogue has become more popular in recent years. A once exclusive if not sleepy hamlet has awakened!
This Week’s Best Beach House is a sprawling traditional built on 3.25 oceanfront acres along Quogue’s coveted Dune Road. The house is ‘grand’ in every sense of the word- with large, formal rooms and a wide footprint that stretches east to west across the home’s beautifully manicured property. There’s more than just a subtle hint of ‘Gatsby’ in this house!
Custom built in 2010 for exacting owners, the sprawling 13,000 SF+/-, 9 bedroom residence was professionally decorated by Markham Roberts and Accents et Details. The two-story paneled entry leads to a magnificent formal living room as well as a professional, fully equipped, eat-in kitchen with an adjacent family room. The formal dining room leads to a unique glass-front, temperature controlled wine room. A sumptuous wood-paneled office with fireplace and wet bar provides a quiet space to get some work done in between tennis matches, played on the full-sized, all-weather north / south tennis court. There are four fireplaces to warm the house and two additional fireplaces outside.
The state-of-the-art home is Crestron controlled. It has Lutron shades in the great room and master suite, providing for covered and uncovered patios with a trellis around the heated gunite pool and spa. Just in front of the pool, and a bit off the side, is a fully equipped – lets call it extraordinary – outdoor kitchen with a brick oven, large stone patio and separate cabana with its own fireplace. For entertaining, this is the ultimate outdoor room! Finally, a private walkway leads to the pristine ocean beach past a sea of verdant lawn while a gated entry and extensive landscaping ensure complete privacy. There is also a dedicated dock across the street, which can accommodate up to five boats.
Surf the ocean in the morning when the waves beckon, kite board in the afternoon when the southwest thermals prevail or just relax at your own private beach with nearby lifeguard facilities.
